YOUNG ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS AND PARENTS UKULELE COURSE | 8 WEEKS| 30 MINS PER WEEK | £35

The small size of the ukulele makes it the perfect first instrument for most children. In recent years ukes have gained popularity, particularly in schools, as a great instrument to help develop kid’s musical abilities. They aren’t very hard to learn, are relatively inexpensive and are super FUN!

The best age to begin a child on an instrument is when they show an interest in it. If you try to force a child to learn an instrument they have no desire to play, you won’t get very far especially if you are teaching them at home. It is possible for kids as young as age 4 to learn a musical instrument, but a good starting age for ukulele is generally age 6 and up.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW: Ongoing in 8 week blocks

This class is designed for children and their parents to learn together in a fun setting and perform as part of a group. Kids will learn how to hold and strum the uke and play basic chords – but importantly it is a time that you will spend learning and having fun together! Ukuleles are provided.

If you put some time in on your own ukulele in between the classes, you’ll get an awful lot out of these 5 weeks as we’ll provide you with resources, backing tracks and in-between class support for you and your new peers. All you need to do is bring yourself, a ukulele and a sense of fun, then practice for at least 10 mins per day between classes. Does that sound good?

After you’ve mastered the basic chords (including the lovely E chord and B flat chord) and a range of strumming patterns in your 5 week absolute beginners course (or equivalent learning elsewhere), you’ll be ready for more! The Beginners 2 course is designed to accelerate you with a leap up towards the Intermediate course material. If you want to explore your position 1 chords, add lots more strums, basic picking and add a bit of sophistication to some really popular songs before moving onto even more extra rhythms and barre chords in the Intermediate Course, then this is the course for you!

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW: Ongoing in 5 week blocks

With a maximum of 15 people in a class, this intimate teaching environment will enable you to play more songs, more chords, new strumming patterns, how to read tab notation and play basic finger picking patterns, along with some handy tricks to make you sound like you’re playing more complicated things than you actually are. A bit like the absolute beginners course, you’ll learn 2 new songs, with new strumming or finger picking patterns each week, and we provide online resources to help you with your practice at home. If you put some time in, in between the classes, you’ll get a lot out of the 5 weeks. This course is a great way to improve your skill, meet new people and have fun.

INTERMEDIATE 1 UKULELE COURSE | 5 WEEKS | £50 | 1.5 HOURS PER WEEK

Join this course if you’ve done both of our beginners courses. Or, if you know all your ukulele chords in 1st position, without over-reliance on chord diagrams, you’re confident with strumming and chord changing and you know how to read tab – you’ve played basic melody already. If that sounds like you, then you’re ready for the intermediate. We’ll unlock the fret board with movable chords, and learn more finger picking melodies. Sound good?

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW: Ongoing in 5 week blocks

With a maximum of 15 people in a class, this intimate teaching environment will enable you to play movable chords, learn to finger pick a number of melody lines, and play different strumming patterns and rhythms with your ukulele. You’ll get to know your instrument a bit better, and play your ukulele using different voicing (inversions) of chords. It’s a great way to get out of the ukulele plateau of only playing first position chords. It’ll open up the fret board a bit, give you some picking patterns, barre chords and strumming methods. Like the beginners courses, you’ll learn 2 new songs each week, with new strumming or finger picking patterns, and we’ll provide online resources to help you with your practice at home. If you put some time in, in between the classes, you’ll get a lot out of the 5 weeks. This course is a great way to improve your skill, meet new people and have fun.
